About the role

As a Scientist - Protein Analytics you provide analytical and characterization data for recombinant proteins to support our protein engineering and protein production team. With your expertise and knowledge in protein analytics, particularly in liquid chromatography, spectroscopic and light scattering techniques, you provide an important contribution to realizing our vision of delivering first-in-class protein therapeutics to patients. Using your attention to detail and your scientific excellence you contribute high quality data and you make use of the opportunity to develop yourself into a strong scientific lead. What you’ll do…

  • Apply your hands-on knowledge in protein analytics by characterizing our recombinant proteins (e.g. monoclonal antibodies, nanobodies, engineered molecules, ligands or receptors) with a variety of biochemical and biophysical techniques.
  • Use state-of-the-art techniques to assess protein stability, solubility, oligomeric states and chemical stability by means of UV-, CD- and fluorescence-spectroscopy, FTIR, nanoDSF, dynamic and static light scattering as well as HPLC methods like SEC, RP, IEX.
  • You use your solid background in protein analytical techniques to monitor the purity, identity and activity of proteins, including SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, various enzyme assays and analytic characterizations.
  • Develop molecule-specific analytical methods by quantifying, characterizing and improving the robustness of your assays.
  • Lead analytical projects, generate reports, present data internally and externally and contribute to publications and/or patents.
  • Follow and write SOPs for your methods to standardize measurements throughout the protein analytics team.
  • Perform characterizations and quality control experiments of antibodies and antigens, managing them under GLP requirements.
  • Independently evaluate results and propose recommended actions by actively taking part in scientific discussions to support protein engineering and production campaigns.
  • Implement recent scientific and technological developments in our lab by liaising with vendors and manufacturers as well as our lab operations team.
  • You take the initiative in keeping yourself up to date with the scientific literature in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest.

What you bring...

    • A PhD (or Masters with experience) in biochemistry, physical chemistry, biophysics or related field with domain expertise demonstrated through your publications, presentations, and history of achievements.
    • Industry experience is a big plus, in particular experience with working in a regulated environment like GLP and GMP.
    • Broad practical experience in characterizing proteins with biophysical techniques like UV-, CD- and fluorescence-spectroscopy, dynamic and static light scattering as well as HPLC methods.
    • Sound knowledge in protein chemistry.
    • Strong willingness to broaden your expertise and to develop your skill-set by employing your hands-on mentality in the lab.
    • Desire to learn and operate across numerous functions.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Fluency in Italian is a plus.
    • Creative and eager to solve scientific challenges while coordinating your efforts with your team colleagues.
    • Your open and friendly communication skills as well as scientific excellence will help to foster the welcoming and scientific working atmosphere in our group
