Peptone is a category-defining translational biophysics company focusing on the intersection of physics, biology and supercomputing. Currently, we are in the scale up phase, where our efforts go into building out our experimental lab capacity in Switzerland while growing the HPC and ML teams in the UK.

About the role

You work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented and fast-paced startup environment with a strong commitment to deliver and in ways that cut across traditional industry boundaries. You are integrated in an interdisciplinary team with matrix organizational structure, in which your main responsibility will be to plan, organize and execute discovery campaigns of therapeutic binders. You closely interact with project managers, assay engineers and biophysics leads to efficiently realize binder selection, characterization and optimization. As a strong expert in your field, you evaluate and establish novel selection strategies and help to integrate them in our Oppenheimer platform and pipeline. You are exposed to a wide range of cross functional tasks through which you can shape the future direction of the company, offering excellent opportunities for your personal development.



What you’ll do

  • Own and drive discovery research projects with an active role in therapeutic binder selection and all other related activities towards Candidate Selection and IND.
  • Be the main point of contact and Program Lead for Peptone’s first research project.
  • Support CSO and C-Suite on R&D strategy for early drug discovery and present at internal and external meetings such as Board meetings.
  • Act as lead for cross functional team internally and externally, guiding experimental design within the context of target biology.
  • Manage and organize the collaboration with CRO’s e.g. For selection, screening and functional profiling campaigns and other service providers.
  • Liaise with scientists in-house and at CROs to apply multiple cutting-edge selection techniques, driving the programme to candidate selection and beyond including scoping of TPP. Draft SoW and workplans for CRO engagements.
  • Where necessary, work closely with external consultants to gain valuable insight on program specific questions.
  • Guide experimental design and troubleshooting. Generate hypotheses to test, troubleshoot issues, design and execute the next set of experiments with the input from Peptone team.
  • Document the results in a detailed manner and in internal databases. Generate word document updates as well as slide summaries. Ensure cross-functional team fertilization of ideas.
  • Provide regular internal and external updates on program progress, risks, mitigation plans and budget updates working closely with the project manager.
  • Present research updates and participate constructively in working project teams and at laboratory group meetings.
  • Analyze and evaluate experimental data and summarize findings and relevance to both project and company objectives.
  • Be accountable for consistency, reliability and credibility of data internally and externally generated.
  • Comply to industry standards of good research practice principles, including relevant documentation procedures, eLNs etc

What you Bring

  • Ph.D. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • 5 years of relevant research experience is required.
  • Proven experience in program leadership within large or small biotech/pharma companies
  • Proven experience in driving early biologics drug discovery research.
  • Experience in a subset of the following areas is desirable: B-cell cloning, hybridoma generation, FACS, automation, Octet (or other biochemical methods of affinity measurement), and developability assays.
  • Familiarity with murine immunizations and high-throughput screening is a plus.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Fluency in Italian is a plus.
